Your Questions About Aztec

Lisa asks…

Did you know Mardi Gras was originally an Aztec holiday to celebrate spring?

Not this Jesus Epiphany Three Wise men crap.

Steve answers:

Every culture has its own holidays. Just because it takes place in the Spring doesn't mean anything. Look at the time line.

The first observance of Mardi Gras celebration in its present resemblance took place in the Middle Ages. And it was following the period of Reformation that swept Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries. The Spanish conquest of the Aztecs in 1521, the 16th century.

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday in English) came to the US through the French culture.

Sandy asks…

What are 10 reasons that the Inca Empire was a great empire?

I need some help, i am debating how the Inca was a greater empire against the Aztecs and the Mayas.

Steve answers:

They built unified empire where the Quechua language was spoken

The empire had only one emperor

Centralised economy, carefully organised (carpets produced only in Cuzco as marks of power)

Traffic through perfect system of roads

Notes in scripture quipu, which allowed to maintain accounting and this system sustained fifty years after the arrival of Spaniards yet

But the cons is that, Incas hadn't any nobility, only ruling cast (capac ayllu) and the mass of other inhabitants (capac ayllu must solve its endogamy by cruelty selection - uninterrupted civil wars

Sandy asks…

Does anyone know how to remove the cam sensor in a 2001 Pontiac Aztec?

I tried pulling it out but I can't seem to get it. Any ideas?

Steve answers:

Turn OFF the ignition.
Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
Remove the attaching bolt.
Remove the sensor.
Inspect the sensor O-ring for wear, cracks, or leakage if the sensor is not being replaced.

Sometimes they have sealer from the intake all over the sensro also, I use a razorblade to cut along the sensor & use a small tip screwdriver to gently pry up on the edge of the sensor

Charles asks…

Were the post classical Maya and the Aztec contemporary?

Did they trade with another, form alliances or have political marriages?

Steve answers:

The Maya people existed during the Aztec empire, but the large Maya cities had fallen before the rise of the Aztecs.

The Maya civilization suffered wars, population decline, and political fragmentation from the 9th to the 10th century CE (by the year 1000), and the Aztecs (Nahua or Mixtec) are thought to have migrated south to the region of southern Mexico about 1200, and established their capital about 250 years after the fall of the last great Maya city, Tikal.

Northern Maya peoples would certainly have come into contact with the expanding Aztec empire (or at least its captive-hunting armies), but there would have been no trade or alliances between empires.

David asks…

how was the aztec motivation for expansionism different from the spanish?

my gr.10 teacher just assigned this essay to us, i now have this weekend and monday to complete it! please help i am desperate! i dont even know how to make a proper essay...>~>;
ow! thank u 4 actually taking ur time to answer my question!:D thanks a whole bunch!;)

Steve answers:

First, don't panic. I have attached three articles from wikipedia. They are on the Aztec Empire, the Catholic Monarchs (Ferdinand and Isabella, the leaders of the early Spanish Empire), and the New Monarchs (fancy historian-speak for what Ferdinand and Isabella were up to). Read them, and anything your teacher has assigned you for reading.
Second, think about the question: what do you think the Aztecs wanted to get by expanding? What did the Spanish want? Figure out what you think your answers are, and write them down in paragraphs.
Third, stick these paragraphs together. Voila.

Maria asks…

Why Cortes and Pizarro destroyed Aztec and Inca Empires?

Cortes and Pizarro invaded and destroyed the Aztec and Inca Empires. Why do you think these 2 explorers destroyed these two thriving empires? How do you think our country would react to this invasion if it happened today?

Steve answers:

Cortes and Pizarro were both "conquistadors". Conquistadors means conquerors, and what do conquerors do? Why, they conquer stuff! In Cortes and Pizarro's case, they destroyed those two empires for the Aztec gold and other valuables.

If we modernize this scenario, I believe it would be safe to say that the United States would do something about the situation, i.e. Contact the country who sent the two men, declare war, send food and supplies to the two empires that were attacked, etc.
